Memoir As Midrash
Listen to this show
On this week's show, author Peter Manseau gave a talk titled "Memoir As Midrash."
Peter Manseau's newest book is "Vows: The Story of a Priest, a Nun, and Their Son," a memoir which tells the story of his family's struggle to reconcile the obligations of faith and the necessity of love.
Peter Manseau's father, a censured priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston, has refused for decades to resign his ordination to the priesthood, despite his marriage and three children. Peter's mother, a teaching sister through the 1960s in riot-torn Roxbury, MA, recently found herself at the center of another storm in the volatile history of the city and the church.
Manseau's talk was sponsored by the Luce Program in Scripture and Literary Arts in cooperation with The Institute for Philosophy and Religion at Boston University.
